Qilu Cultural Studies are one of dominant subjects which boast for decades of profound academic accumulations in Shandong Normal University(SDNU). Qilu Cultural Studies had been ranked as one of the key research projects since 1960s. Many top scholars，namely, An Zuozhang, Yan Weiqing, Tian Zhongji and others had made prosperous research achievements during that period. The early-90s of 20th century had witnessed new multi-disciplinary and comprehensive development as well as much great academic progress for Qilu Cultural Studies, SDNU.
In 1999,in order to meet the needs of disciplinary construction and development of SDNU and great cultural constructions of Shandong Province, Shandong Normal University made profound researches and investigations, then combined the related academic resources, including literature, history and philosophy, and decided to set up Center for Qilu Cultural Studies (CQCS). This decision gained great supports of Shandong Provincial Party Committee, Shandong Government and Shandong Education Department, and SDNU paid high attention to the construction of CQCS. For this, the University aimed to carry out strictly the constructive standards of key research centers for humanities and social sciences for Chinese colleges and universities, which was set by Ministry of Education, not only recruited most of the top experts within SDNU, but also joined hands with first-class scholars and experts, both inside and outside Shandong Province, and had managed to form a great academic research teams of enormous potentiality. All these efforts had resulted in the successful approval by Ministry of Education and successful birth of CQCS in March,2001.
In order to tackle key problems in academic fields, CQCS continuously strengthen the ties, coordination and innovation between SDNU and other universities. So in 2008, CQCS, as well as Shandong Social Science Association held “the Joint Conference for All Research Institutes of Qilu Cultural Studies of Shandong Colleges and Universities”, which attempted to conduct many tentative co-operations and researches. The conference finally proved to be a great success and won great popularities and high praises from various research institutes. Based on these facts, in 2013, under the agreement of Department of Propaganda , Shandong Provincial Committee and Shandong Organization Establishment, SDNU combined with certain departments of Shandong Government , associated with academic resources, both home and abroad, and jointly form Shandong Provincial Institutes of Qilu Cultural Studies(SDPIQCS).In the spirit of 18th CPC National Congress and The 6th Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee , and in agreement with national cultural development strategies, SDPIQCS had set up seven working objectives, such as To combine research resources,To work together, and To build a stage for Qilu Higher Academic communications”, “To build a scientific research-centered, talents-collected, high-level academic group for Qilu Cultural Studies”,etc. In order to reach these goals, SDNU had built up many entities of research and efficient working mechanism and tried to attract lots of first-class talents and thus form an excellent research team,
July 2013 had seen our new progress. Led by SDNU, SDPIQCS joined hands with nine famous academic institutions, Departments of Shandong Government and Public institutions( namely, Shandong University, Shandong Academy of Social Sciences, Shandong Provincial Department of Culture, Institute of history, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Confucius Research Institute of China, Shandong Radio and Television Station , Tourism Planning and Design Institute of Shandong Province, China Research Institute of Busan University of Korea, Korea –Sino Agency of Ideological and Cultural Institute) had built up “Co-operative and Innovative Center for Qilu Cultural Transmission and Shandong Culturally Powerful Provincial Construction”. The Center was identified by Shandong Provincial Education Department and Shandong Finance Department as “Co-operative and Innovative Center for Shandong Colleges and Universities”( of self-cultivation)
Since its birth, in the light of the organizational working modes proposed by Ministry of Education, including “Open Institutions and flowing talents, combination with domestic and international resources, competition and innovation”, SDPIQCS had conducted wider co-operation with various domestic and international institutions, academic organizations and certain departments of Shandong Government.
